Abstract

711,233. Colour photography. GEIGY SOC. ANON., J. R. June 5, 1952 [Aug. 16, 1951], No. 19380/51. Class 98(2) A photographic element for the silver-dyebleach process comprises a support carrying a light sensitive gelatine-silver halide layer or a plain gelatine layer coated adjacent thereto containing a cyan dyestuff of the formula where A, the most noticeable part of the molecule, is the residue of a diazotized aminophenyl-benzyl ether or aminophenyl-phenyl ether which may be substituted in the benzene rings as by additional ether groups but no water-solubilizing acid groups; R is a lower alkyl or carboxymethyl group; X.is a hydroxyl, amino, alkylamino, aralkylamino, acylamino or sulphonamido group, and n is 1 or 2. Preferably R is a methyl or ethyl group and the sulphonic acid of the middle naphthalene ring is in the 6 or 7 position, and a sulphonic acid group is in the 4, 5 or 6 position with respect to the 8 hydroxyl group of the right-hand naphthalene ring or two sulphonic acid groups are in the 3: 6 or 2:4 positions. Normally the cyan dyed layer is red sensitive and constitutes the lowermost layer of a conventional multilayer dye-bleach element. An example concerned with a single such layer only describes addition of the dyestuff 2-amino- 41-tert. amyl diphenyl ether # 1-amino-2-methoxynaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid # 1-amino-8- hydroxy-naphthalene-3:6-disulphonic acid to a silver iodo-bromide emulsion, coating of such on to film base, imagewise exposure and dye-bleach processing to produce a reversed image in cyan dye. Preparation of this and numerous dyestuffs of the formula above is described and claimed in Specification 711,232, [Group IV(c)]. Specifications 397,159, 397,188 and 490,451 also are referred to.
