Abstract

711,140. Bobbin supporting means. GOODSON, E. A., and GOODSON, R. E. April 21, 1952 [Jan. 23, 1951], No. 1705/51. Class 120(2) Means for rotatably supporting reels or bobbins of wire or the like comprises a normally stationary spindle fitted at its ends with cones which are freely rotatable on said spindle said cones being disposed with. their smaller diameter ends directed towards one another and constituting supports which can enter the ends of the bore of a reel or bobbin at least one of said cones being detachably secured to the spindle to facilitate removal and replacement of a bobbin. As shown the support comprises a spindle 1 fitted with freely rotatable cones 2 and 3 at its ends. The cone 2 is mounted for rotation by a ball bearing 10 on a disc 5 mounted on a shoulder 6 integral with the spindle 1 the latter being formed at its end with a screw thread 7 for fixing the device to a machine part. The cone 2 is integral with a hollow cup-shaped brake drum 4 to which any known form of brake may be applied to control its speed. The other cone 3 is rotatably mounted by ball bearing 16 on a disc 12 rotatable on the threaded part 20 of the spindle 1. The disc 12 can be locked in any position on the spindle 1 by lock-' nut 19 which has limited rotational movement relative to the disc 12 by virtue of a pin 21 engaging an arcuate slot in the lock nut 19.
