Abstract
718,800. Furnace hearths. DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT VORM. ROESSLER. Jan. 7, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1952], No. 516/53. Class 51 (2) In a continuous furnace for the heat treatment of ingots &c. the refractory, load-carrying hearth is studded with slide elements of sintered alumina embedded therein and rigidly secured by firing in situ. The slide elements may comprise flat plates 1, Fig. 1. with rounded corners projecting from a magnesite hearth 2 or balls 10, Fig. 4, projecting from the hearth 11. The slide elements may also comprise trapezoidal blocks, Fig. 2 (not shown) and may be set in inter-engaging bricks forming the hearth, Fig. 3 (not shown), or several superposed layers of balls may be used, Fig. 5 (not shown). The sintered alumina should not contain more than 0.8 per cent silica and should have a density within the range 3.0-3.9 grs./cc. The hearth may be made of fireclay, magnesite or brown corundum and a thin layer of fluxes such as fluorides, boron compounds or iron oxide may be applied to the slide elements.
