Class 130 In a hand-operated cigarette-making machine of the kind comprising a cylindrical casing. composed of two hinged parts 1 each having a longitudinally slidable channel piece 2 therein forming a cylindrical mould for tobacco which after filling is slidable out of the casing 1 so that a paper tube can be slipped thereon or a cigarette paper wrapped therearound, the casing parts have channel-shaped rims 6 at the end at which the channel pieces emerge, at least one of which rims is provided with a lateral projection 7, Figs. 2 and 3, which trims off tobacco shreds protruding through the joint between the parts 2 of the mould during its travel out of the casing and which, in the closed position of the device, takes up a position beneath the rim 6 on the other casing part so as to be covered externally thereby and in contact therewith. The casing parts 1 are held closed when shut by clips 5 and the channel pieces 2 are slid lengthwise out of the casing by finger pieces 3 moving along slots 4 in the casing. After the paper tube or wrapper has been placed around the tube, one of the channel pieces 2 is drawn back and the finished cigarette is slid off the other channel piece. The projections 7 are preferably provided opposite both of the joints between the parts 2 to remove the protruding tobacco shreds on both sides and their edges may be sharpened. The overlapping parts 8 of the rim 6 may also be arranged to contact the joints of the channel pieces 2 and channel-shaped rims may be provided at the other end of the device for strengthening purposes.
