Abstract

716,828. Valve gear. SAMPIETRO, A. C. April 24, 1953 [May 23, 1952], No. 13150/52. Class 7(6) In an engine having inlet and exhaust valves 6, 9, on opposite sides of a substantially hemispherical combustion chamber 1, a single camshaft 25 on one side of the cylinder operates the valve 6 on the same side of the cylinder through a primary push rod 12 and rocker 14 and the valve 9 on the opposite side through a second primary push rod 12, a first rocker 15, a secondary push rod 20 projecting across the cylinder head, and a second rocker 21, either the inlet or exhaust passage 4, 5 being arranged laterally of the cylinder and arranged to pass between the rockers 12. In a multicylinder engine, Fig. 3, all of the primary push rods 12 are arranged in line and the rockers 14, 15, for each cylinder are arranged on a common pivot shaft 13 whilst the rockers 21 are arranged on a second common pivot shaft.
