Abstract

703,818. Bobbins. DOMINION MAGNESIUM, Ltd. March 18. 1952 [Nov. 10, 1951], No. 7021/52. Class 120(3) A metal spool or bobbin comprises an end flange having an annular shoulder to which an annular end surface of a drum is bonded by a synthetic resin adhesive which constitutes the sole means for uniting the flange and drum. The spool shown in Fig. 1 comprises identical flanges 1 each having a hub portion 5, strengthening ribs 10, and a shoulder 8; a drum 3 with a groove 15 and recessed ends forming shoulders-17; a centre tube 2 recessed to form shoulders 14 and hub-engaging surface 13; adhesive 18 uniting the four components. In the bobbin shown in Fig. 3, one of the flanges is replaced by a plug 19 having a hub 20 surfaces of which are bonded to the tube 2 and drum 3. The metal may be a light metal, e.g. magnesium alloy.
