Abstract
703,744. Bending. WALKER, Ltd., T. Dec. 5, 1952 [Feb. 23, 1952], No. 4805/52. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group VII] A foot-operated press for swedging or clenching metal fittings such as buckles, adjusting slides and metal tips to bands comprises a base 1 securable to a workbench and having a fixed anvil 6 for supporting the fitting 20 to be clenched and, above the anvil, a clenching tool 12 fixed to the shorter arm of a footoperated bellcrank lever 7 pivoted to said base, and a stop surface for locating the fitting on the anvil. As shown the tool 12 has a depending tail portion 13 whose front face forms said locating stop surface and to this end is convexly curved to keep close to the anvil surface edge throughout the downward movement of the tool. The clenching surface 14 of the tool is joined to the front convex surface by a concave-curved comer 15 which co-operates with the edge of the article, e.g. a slide 20 to start the clenching operation: A variable screw top 17 limits the angular movement of the lever and closeness of approach of the tool to the anvil.
