Abstract

701,189. Casting-machines. JUNGHANS, S. Jan. 15, 1952 [Jan. 25, 1951], No. 1161/52. Class 83 (1) Apparatus for the continuous casting of high melting point metals such as iron and steel comprises a ladle for the molten metal and means for controlling the discharge from the ladle into a distributing trough having a number of outlets which deliver the metal to a number of individual troughs feeding separate casting machines. The outlet-2 of the ladle 1 is of such a size that if the ladle is less than one third full, the flow therefrom can be unrestricted. If the ladle is more than one third full, the outlet is controlled by a plug 3. The distributing- trough 4 has four outlets 4a, each having a heat resisting nozzle 5 of a cross section corresponding to the average output of the machine 10 which it supplies. If necessary the outlets may be controlled by plugs 16. Each outlet 4a feeds a trough 6 mounted so as to be tiltable about journals 7 to regulate or entirely stop the flow to its casting machine, any metal not fed to the machine being discharged by an overflow outlet 11 into a crucible 12. A safety overflow passage 4c is also provided in the distributing trough 4. Heated covers 17, 18 are provided over the troughs 4 and 6. In a modification the distributing trough is supported on vertically adjustable screws and each outlet therefrom is in the form of an open channel.
