Abstract

701,144. Reciprocating pumps. ARMOUR & CO. April 7, 1952 [April 7, 1951], No. 8881/52. Class 102 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] A nozzle for a machine for filling containers comprises a casing 10 into the outlet of which is screwed a plug 14 having a number of small diameter passages 18. A piston 19, fitted with a sealing ring 20, is guided in the casing and has a resilient disc 16 which engages the plug 14 to form a valve. The piston is loaded by a strong spring 26 and has a short stroke determined by the collar 30 to obtain a sharp dripless cut-off. Fig. 1 shows the nozzle associated with a measuring pump comprising a cylinder 100 attached to a vat 105 and having a sealing ring 116 which enters a flared mouth 119 of the cylinder to trap the same quantity of liquid in the cylinder at each stroke. The lower end of the piston has grooves 112 and passages 113, 114 and notches 121 to permit flow of liquid to the cylinder. The cylinder head 106 is clamped by a plate 107 and bolts 108.
