700,857. Guiding webs transversely. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN. Oct. 20, 1950 [Oct. 21, 19491], No. 25623/50; Class 100 (1) In an apparatus for guiding a web transversely before entry into a machine, for example, a drying machine, edge uncurlers 3, 4 and 6 and feed arms 10, comprising endless chain conveyers carrying-web-engaging pins, are carried on independent supports, but are connected by a lostmotion device, such that for small transverse web deviations the edge uncurlers remain stationary, while the feed arms 10 are moved transversely, about pivots 20, towards or away from the web centre by individual reversible electric motors (not shown). The motors 10 are controlled by web-engaging feelers 8 supported on the free ends of the arms 10 which are supported on a horizontal bracket 13 by movable trucks 14. The edge uncurlers 3, 4 and 6, provided with alternate right and left hand threads, are driven by driving motors (not shown) carried on supports 5 mounted on wheels 15 and 19 for movement transverse to the direction of web feed. Each support 5 is connected to the corresponding feed arm 10 by a pin 23 engaged in an aperture 22 of a bracket 22a on each support, the lost-motion between the support and feed arm being adjustable by bolts 21 and 24.
