Abstract

700,816. Tyre levers. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. April 4, 1952 [April 20, 1951], No. 9239/51. Class 144(1) A tyre-removing tool, particularly for freeing the tyre-bead from the wheel rim, comprises pivoted hooked members for engaging respectively the rim-flange and adjacent portion of the tyre, an adjustable link having at one end a hook to engage the opposite rim-flange and pivoted at its other end to the tyre-engaging member on which is also pivoted a hand-lever for applying the operative thrust on the tyre. As shown, the hand-lever 1 has a curved hook-end 3 to engage the rim-flange, and the tyre-displacement member 6 is formed of two plates 5 with hooked ends 7 similar to the hook 3 of lever 1. The parts 3, 7 are pivoted together at 8 and are locked in the (inoperative) position shown by means of a removable pin 23. The adjustable link 13 having a hook 18 at one end to engage the rim-flange opposite that engaged by the hooks 7, is pivoted at its other end on pins 14 riveted to the plates 5 of the tyre-displacement member. In use, the rim is first assembled between the hook 18 and the superposed hooks 3, 7, the pin 23 is withdrawn, and the hooked ends 7 of the plates 5 are forcibly pressed against the tyre by means of the lever 1. The locking pin 23 may be replaced by a hand-controlled spring-detent or similar catch.
