Abstract
700,116. Printing machines. FABER & SCHLEICHER AKT.-GES. March 20, 1951 [March 30, 1950], No. 6604/51. Class 100 (2) Rotary machines; gripper mechanism.-In apparatus for conveying sheets of paper between two rotary printing couples, employing chains provided with gripper systems which take over the sheets of paper from the grippers on the impression cylinder of one couple and transfer them to grippers on the impression cylinder of the other couple, the chain gripper systems are movable relatively to the chains, a device being provided on each impression cylinder for effecting such movement during the transfer of a sheet to effect proper registration of the sheet. As shown in Figs. 6 and 8, the gripper mechanism 108 is mounted on a carriage consisting of bars 104, 105, 106 having rollers 103 thereon which run in tracks 101, 102. The gripper carriage is connected by draw bars 111, 112, to chains 109, 110, the draw bars allowing the carriage to move relatively to the chains. Relative movement, for the purpose of correctly positioning the grippers with respect to an impression cylinder 115, is achieved by the action of fingers 116 on the cylinder 115, on fingers 113, 114 on the gripper carriage. causing the gripper carriage to tilt, such tilting being allowed by the provision of a spring biased, movable portion 117 of the track 102. In a second embodiment (Figs. 10 and 12) the gripper carriage consists of two bars 201, 202, with rollers 203, 204 on which it runs between guide rails 205, 206. As long as the chain 207 runs in a straight line the gripper carriage is coupled therewith by a roller 208 and a link 209, located on the chord of the two rollers 203, 204. When the path of the chain and gripper carriage becomes curved the link 209 drops, Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown) to release the gripper carriage from the chain. To drive the gripper carriage during the revolving of the chain a lever 215 is mounted on a shaft 214, a spring biased forked lever 216 being connected with the lever 215 by a draw-spring 217, the forked part of the lever 216 carrying the gripper carriage by means of a roller 210 mounted on the gripper carriage. Relative movement between the gripper carriage and chain is thus allowed under the action of fingers 211, 213 on the gripper carriage and impression cylinder respectively. In a third embodiment, Figs. 15 ... 20 (not shown) instead of the carriage being normally driven by the chain by means of the roller 208 and link 209 it is carried in roller cups on a long chain link.
