Abstract

709,897. Filters. FRAM CORPORATION. Dec. 15, 1952, No. 31733/52. Class 46 Liquid to be filtered, such as oil contaminated with water and solids passes through openings 20 in an outer casing 19, through a layer 17 preferably of fibre glass having a fibre diameter of three microns and necessarily having slits such as 18 through it, through a layer 15 preferably of fibre glass having a fibre diameter of one micron, and through resin-impregnated paper 14 to a perforated outlet tube 10. The layer 17 collects contaminant until it becomes clogged, after which the liquid passes through the slits 18 to the inner layer 15 direct. The layers 15 and 17 exert a coalescing action on dispersed particles of water carried by the liquid.
