Abstract
709,058. Making containers. STAHL-UND WALZWERKE RASSELSTEIN/ANDERNACH AKT.-GES. Oct. 29, 1952 [Oct. 29, 1951], No. 27244/52. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4) Seamed and soldered joints.-A method of making preserve containers is characterized in that a lacquered iron band 1 corresponding in width to the circumference of the container is provided on one side and at both edges with wide tinned longitudinal strips 2 and 3 and on the other side at one edge with a narrow tinned strip 4 which has step-like enlargements 5 equally spaced at distances H corresponding to the height of the container. The band is formed into a container having a folded joint 6 in a folding and soldering machine and tin is flooded on the exterior of the folded seam at 7 to ensure airtightness in the container. The fold 6 does not extend the whole height of the container as at both ends the tinned enlargements 5 form an overlapping joint as shown in Fig. 6. The tinned strips may be applied galvanically.
