Class 120(1) Lap feeding apparatus of a carding engine comprises a feed roller 4 provided circumferentially with rings of saw-teethlike projections 6, or rings of pins, spaced apart axially of the roller, and a feed table 2 having a trough 1 formed with grooves which are correspondingly arranged in relation to the rings of teeth or pins on the roller, the arrangement being such that the teeth or pins can penetrate through the web of material and enter grooves so that should roller 4 lift the web is still held firmly by the teeth or pins over the whole width.
