707,846. Gauging alignment of separate bodies. SCHIESS AKT.-GES. July 15, 1952, No. 17802/52. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A method of setting a toothed wheel in relation to a second toothed member, e.g. a gear wheel 2 in relation to a cutting tool 1, consists in meshing with each member a gauge toothing 4, 5 and comparing the relative positions of the toothings. The toothing 4 is meshed with the gear 2 and the toothing 5 with the cutter 1. The gear and cutter are then adjusted until the tooth 5 formed on a slide 19 is advanced to its maximum forward position. The cut to be taken can be measured from a scale 8, or a dial gauge 23. The slide 19 is also adjustable transversely, the movement being indicated by a scale 26. In a modification, the toothing 5 is pivoted at 14 to a slide which is adjustable against springs 9 by hand-levers 11, the zero positions being indicated by marks 7, 15. The device may also be modified to set helical wheels and gear-shaping cutters or hobs.
