Abstract

706,726. Storing lengths of cable. GLOVER & CO., Ltd., W. T. Oct. 22, 1952 [Oct. 2,3, 1951], No. 24716/51. Classes 78 (2) and 78 (5) [Also in Groups XXV and XXXVI] Cable, Fig. 1, from a cable-making machine is pulled by winch 13 and is passed around sets of pulleys 5, 6 and 1, 2 carried by frames 8 and 4 which are relatively movable under counterweight 16, the cable being given a further pull by winch 14. There may be a plurality of such sets of pulleys arranged in different orientations. Winch 14, Fig. 4, may be controlled so as to prevent too much or too little tension in the cable, the movement of pulley 23 on the cable being communicated by linkage 22 to a pair of expanding pulleys forming the variable speed gear 19 so as to vary the speed of winch 14. Similarly, frame 8 at the limit of its right-hand movement contacts switch 21 which operates the motor 26 which moves rack 29 so as to rotate pinion 28 carrying sleeve 27, and the latter carries threadedly the two ends of the linkage 22 so that the speed of the winch is thus varied. Alternatively, the control of the motor may be through its resistance. Again, the limit switches may control the controller of a " constant tension " motor.
