Class 104 (2) A resilient clip for securing a rail to a sleeper has at least one portion that reaches across and presses 'against a bottom rail flange, portions that. extend downwardly on each side of the sleeper to engage a projection on the face thereof and one portion that reaches across to press against the other bottom rail flange or the top of the sleeper. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the resilient clip 5 or 15 bears on the bottom flange 6 of rail 3 and then passes downwards along the sleeper sides to engage the underside of a pin 7 and then upwards, to bear on the top of the sleeper 1. The clip 5, Fig. 3 has a single point contact but clip 15 is provided with a W-shaped front to present a two point contact with the rail flange 6. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 the clip 17 which is of W-formation in plan view Fig. 5, not shown, bears with single point contact at 17 b on one side and with a double point contact at 17g on the other side of the flange of rail 3 and engages the underside of a pin 7 arranged directly beneath the rail. The upper surface of the sleeper 1 may be grooved and the pin 7 notched at its ends to receive the clip 5. The pin 7 may be cast in or passed through a tube 8 cast in a concrete sleeper. A layer of electrical insulating material may be inserted between the outside of the tube 8 and the sleeper 1 or between the pin 7 and the clip 5. The clip may be formed from a closed or split ring and the tension in the clip may be varied by using different diameter pins 7.
