Abstract

705,303. Seaming sheet material. BRITISH BELTING & ASBESTOS, Ltd. July 30, 1952 [July 30, 1951], No. 17985/51. Class 42 (1) [Also in Group XXV] The ends 1, 2 of textile belting or webbing are joined by cutting a series of complementary V-shaped notches 3 and fitting the notches together but leaving a small gap 4 which is filled with a polyvinyl chloride paste, and heating with light pressure to gel the paste. The paste may be plasticized with dioctyl phthalate or tricresyl phosphate and 'may include pigments or fillers. The edges of the notches may be painted with the paste prior to bringing them into the position shown when a further quantity of the paste is inserted into the gap.
