Abstract

699.816. Grates. BIRMINGHAM STEEL CO.. Ltd. Dec. 21. 1951 [Dec. 21, 1950], No. 31089/50. Class 126 A domestic fire grate comprises a front frame having connected to it two side portions, a bottom portion, a back portion and fire bars mounted on top of the said portions, the whole forming a complete grate unit. A front frame 3 with an air inlet controlled by a front cover 10 is connected to sheet metal sides 4. bottom 5 and a back 6 adapted to fit into an ordinary domestic fireplace. The top edges of the sides 4 slope downwardly towards the back and have flanges 7 on which the grate proper 8 rests. An upstanding front part 11 with a fire brick lining 12 is provided at the top of the front frame, and hooks 13 on the back of the front cover 10 engage projections 14 on the inside of the opening in the frame so that a limited draught can reach the fuel, or the cover 10 can be removed to provide a full draught. A removable ash pan 9 is provided.
