Abstract

697,400. Self-cleaning mops. PHILLIPS TELESCOPIC TAPS, Ltd., and BRADBURY, T. H. Dec. 6, 1951 [Dec. 7, 1950], No. 29940/50. Class 19. A wringer mop comprises a tubular handle 1 to which is fixed a U-shaped base member 3; two supports 6 for sponge material are mounted on the member 3, being movable into a position (Fig. 2) in which the sponge material may be squeezed between them. The supports 6 are of box form and each is attached to the member 3 by means of a wire frame 5, the outer end of which pivots in the support 6 and the inner in a socket 4 formed by turning over the end of the member 3. When positioned for mopping (Fig. 1) tongues 9 formed on the inner ends of the supports 6 engage the back of the member 3 and flanges 8 rest against the frames 5. The sponge material 7 is glued to a pair of supporting plates 10 each of which is attached to one of the supports 6 by a bolt 12. The supports 6 are moved by means of a slide 14 sliding on the handle 1, through the intermediary of a pair of links 13. Each link is bent up within the respective support 6 to form a pivot, Fig. 3 (not shown), and passes through an aperture in the corresponding corner of the slide 14 ; the adjacent ends of the two links are bent up within a common sleeve 15 sliding in a slot formed in the handle 1. A detachable squeegee, Fig. 8 (not shown), may be provided, having a support member fitting within the member 3.
