Abstract

Classes 52(i) and 52(iii) [Also in Group X] A slatted shutter closure comprises parallel shutter guides 15, separable slats 10, displaceable within the guides, a magazine 25 for the slats adjoining one end of the guides at an angle thereto, and ejecting means urging slats inside the magazine towards the guide, each slat having interengaging lips 11, 12. As shown in Fig. 1, Z-section slats having the top lip 11 projecting inwardly are urged outwardly from the magazine by a spring 25, and are raised by means of handles 26 on the lowermost slat 10B. The lips 10, 11 may be rounded or padded to prevent wear and rattle. Modified forms of slats are shown in Figs. 6 and 9 and the slats may be formed of wood, plastic material, or metal, e.g. by expansion, or may be formed in two materials as in Fig. 10, e.g. with webs 440 of glass &c. received in slots 441 in heads 411, 412 of plastic, metal, or transparent or translucent material. The upper and lower lips need not extend over the entire length of the slats, but may be arranged over short lengths only, e.g. at the end portions which enter the guides. The webs of the slats may be profiled, formed with projections and grooves, or corrugated. The slats may be arranged vertically to slide in horizontal guides, or may slide in inclined or curved guides. In the construction shown in Fig. 12, the slats 610 sliding in guides 615 and stored in a vertical magazine 625 are driven into the guides by a spring 622 with or without a driving weight 648. Other modifications are described wherein the slats are urged to the guides by leaf or coil springs.
