Abstract

696,218. Coating with metals. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. April 19, 1951 [May 15, 1950], No. 12030/50. Class 82(ii) [Also in Group XI] A metal strip is curved or bent to form both a tubular heating cavity 2 and a succession of spaced elongated outer, cavities 3a ... 3b around said cavity in all or nearly all radial directions for limiting heat loss, the end regions of the strip defining the outermost cavities. The tantalum strip may have electric connections 4, 5 and serve as a heating resistance. A temperature of 2500‹C may be attained in the vacuum vaporization of metals, a directional characteristic being given to the metal vapours. The strip may serve as a radiation shield for a heated body in the cavity and may taper to or from its ends.
