A device for filing papers includes a clip 11 comprising a base member 10, adapted to be secured, as by rivets 12, to a folder 13, and a gripper member 17 hinged together and having spring means 21 for positively locating the clip in either an open position with the members substantially at right angles or a closed position with the members superposed, one of the members having secured thereto a resilient post 22 which is adapted to be threaded through holes punched in the sheets 23. The members 10, 17 may be triangular or, as shown rectangular metal plates, cranked inwardly near one end at 14, 19 and with that end bent inwardly and with alternate projections bent at 15, 20 round a hinge pin 16. An arcuate leaf spring 21 is snapped into the depressions 14, 19 and is of such size that in the open position of the clip, it passes over the dead centre to positively hold the clip open. The post 22, which comprises a helically coiled wire or may be a cylinder of rubber or similar resilient material, in the open position springs up vertically but in the closed position is held down by the member 17 which may be bowed outwardly so that the clip may take more sheets 23. When a rectangular plate 17 is used, one corner 18 is curled over so as to uncover more of the sheets 23 and to facilitate opening of the clip. The, or more than one, clip 11 may be provided at any position along the marginal edge of a folder.
