Abstract

A ferritic alloy steel contains Cr 20-30 per cent, Al 0.25-1.5 per cent, C up to 0.03 per cent, N up to 0.08 per cent, the sum of the C and N proportions being in excess of 0.06 per cent, Mn up to 2.0 per cent and Si up to 1.0 per cent, the remainder being iron and incidental impurities, the steel having, in the annealed condition, an average Izod impact strength of at least 15 foot pounds at room temperature. The alloy may also include one or both of the following elements: Mo up to 3.0 per cent, Ni 0.05-3.5 per cent. If Ni is present Cu may also be present up to 3.0 per cent, the total of Ni and Cu not exceeding 4.0 per cent, and the content of Mn may be as high as 3.0 per cent.
