Class 5(ii) A licking device, for supplying grazing animals with doses of food-supplementing liquid or paste-like substances such as vitamins, comprises a roller, ball or endlessband device, supported for movement relatively to a container, so as to be coated automatically with the substance as licking proceeds. Fig. 2.shows a licking roller 2 supported for rotation over a liquid container 1 provided with scrapers 3, 4. Figs. 3, 7 show alternative forms of rotatable licking members. A plurality of such members of ball shape may be combined as shown in Fig. 8, or the ball or cylinder may comprise independently rotatable sections 19, Fig. 7. The container for a liquid may be automatically replenished from a superposed tank 8, Fig. 9, two forms of which are shown. The supply of liquid may be controlled by the licks of the animal. Solid substances may be supplied to a liquid container by tablets 25, Fig 12, fed from a magazine 23. The device may be associated with the usual automatic animal-watering devices. The supplementing substance in paste form may be supplied by a pad 53, Fig. 16, pressed against a roller 51 by a spring 52a. The ball or cylinder may be hollow to contain a vegetable protruding through perforations to entice the animal to commence licking.
