Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv) Roofing, decking &c. slabs 5a are supported on rigid elongated channels of sheet material with flanges 4 providing a bearing surface and bridge pieces 9 within the c h a n n e 1 associated with ties 11 and pronged washers 12 for holding the slabs in position. The tie may comprise an upstanding bolt welded to the bridge piece, or, as shown, a flat metal strip with a neck portion near the lower end for engagement in a slot in the bridge piece, the tie being turned through 90 degrees after insertion in the bridge piece. The upper end is slit to form tongues 11 which are passed through a washer 12 and turned down after the washer has been pressed on to the slab. Two channels may be joined end to end by a connector shoe 14 of corresponding cross-section fitting within them and bolted to both. A bridge piece 16 and tie are arranged at the centre of the shoe. The joined channels are secured to a purlin or truss by a depending hook bolt passing through a longitudinal slot in the base of the shoe and a clearance aperture in the channel. In the roof shown each tie is located at the junction of three slabs except in the case of the lowest channel. Loose insulation felt &c. may be inserted in the channels under conditions which promote heavy condensation. The slabs e.g. of woodwool may be surfaced with a cement screed covered with one or more layers of bitumen roofing continuously bonded in bituminous compound. Specification 683,081 is referred to.
