686,927. Feeding sheets. BENZ, J., HILGERS, H., and ELLINGHAUS, W. M. E., (trading as BENZ & HILGERS MASCHINENFABRIK). Oct. 16, 1950 [Oct. 15, 1949], No. 25128/50. Class 100 (i). Sheet-separators.-Sheets are separated from a stack 1 by a suction roller 3 which sucks one edge of the bottom sheet into contact therewith, and then rolls beneath the stack to peel the sheet therefrom. The roller 3 is rolled by the engagement of a gear-wheel thereon with a toothed rack. Rails 4 and 5 arranged on each side of the roller 3, support the stack, and move with the roller; a spring-urged pressure roller 7 and sheet-guides 8, 9 also move with the roller 3. The roller 3 has an axial bore connected to a suction pump, and has a number of radial holes 6 leading from the bore to the periphery. The roller 7 comprises spaced discs, and the roller 3 has circumferential recesses therein to accommodate the ends of the guides 8, 9. Initially, the holes 6 in the suction roller 3 are not quite vertical whereby the leading edge of the bottom sheet is slightly bent to free it from the next sheet. As the roller 3 rotates, the bottom sheet is peeled from the stack and is fed by the roller 7 between the guides 8, 9, and when the roller 3 reaches the end of the stack, the sheet is gripped by a pair of feed rollers 10.
