Abstract

686,195. Doors and like closures. JOINERY & INSULATION CO., Ltd., KING A. E., and BUTCHER, W. L. July 25, 1951 [July 26, 1950], No. 18653/50. Class 20(iii) A removable sealing panel 14 for a door, or other framed opening, 10 in, e.g. a cool storage chamber for fruit, comprises a frame 15 and a sheet of metal, or metalcovered plywood 16 having, at the edges, bolts 28 rotatably mounted in U-shaped metal strips 26, each bolt being displace- :able outwardly from the edges of the panel to enter a groove 23 in a frame 22. On rotation of the handles 32 of the bolts 28 the cam surfaces 30 at the other end of the bolts engage a metal liner 24 on the forward wall of the groove 23 and urge the panel 10 into sealing contact with a strip 20 projecting from the frame wall 19. The strip is smeared with grease, or the like, which when the door is pressed home, fills the recess 40 and forms a packing. One or more bolts 28a, Fig. 1, have cam faces which, when turned, press against the opposite face 44 of the groove 23 to assist in removing the panel. The bolts may be provided with projecting pins 42 which pass through corresponding slots in the strips 26 to ensure that the bolts are moved into the grooves 23 with the cams 30 in their inoperative positions. A hinged insulating outer door 11 having a sealing gasket 12 is also provided. In an alternative construction the bolts are pivotally mounted to swing into their outwardly displaced positions.
