Abstract
685,004. Turnbuckle fastenings; locks. BROWN, E.L. Oct. 11, 1951 [Oct. 11, 1950], No. 24869/50. Class 44 A turnbuckle fastening is locked by a key lock mounted on a keeper plate and having a bolt adapted to cover part of the slot therein so as to prevent release movement of the arm of the turnbuckle. Fig. 1 shows the fastening in the locked position, and Fig. 2 shows the lock mechanism. The keeper plate 5 is attached e.g. to a window frame by screws passing through holes 18 so that the slot 17 is presented for engagement with the arm 23 of the turnbuckle. A sliding bolt 6 has extensions 20 one of which covers part of the slot 17 to prevent the arm 23 swinging to the release position. A spring loaded tumbler 7 pivoted to the plate 5 has a gate 11 co-operating with a lug 10 on the bolt 6. A key inserted through a key-hole 13 displaces the tumbler to the releasing position and moves the bolt to and from the shot position. The extensions 20 of the bolt cover the heads of screws passed through openings 18 to prevent their removal to open the window. The mechanism is covered by a flanged plate 4. The turnbuckle has a pivoted handle 22 and an attachment plate 26 mounted e.g. on the window by screws 27. The screws 27 may be covered by strips 29 bent over and retained by a bar 28 or by right angle projections from the extensions 20 of the bolt so that the screws cannot be removed when the bolt is in the locking position.
