Abstract

679,936. Screw pumps. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 4, 1950 [Jan. 23, 1950], No. 1711/50. Class 110(i) [Also in Group XXXIV] In a railway vehicle axle box, oil contained in a lower reservoir 1a is delivered to an upper reservoir 1b by means of an annular member 3 arranged on the end of the axle 2. The member 3 has a helical groove 3c in its bore, the ends of which are connected b y passages 3e, 3g, and 3d, 3f to the lower and upper reservoirs 1a, 1b respectively. Rotation of the axle causes the flow of oil, and the rotation of the member 3 is prevented by engagement of the nozzle 3f with a fixed stop 1c. For rotation of the axle in the opposite direction the member 3 rotates approximately half a turn, and the nozzle 3g abuts against the stop 1c. Passages 4b feed the lubricant from the reservoir 1b to the bearing surface. The member 3 is made in two halves which are bolted together.
