Abstract
679,169. Thermal regenerators. BOWDEN, A. T., and PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A. Jan. 12, 1949 [Dec. 12, 1947], No. 32774/47. Class 64(i) A sealing device making either axial or radial con tact with the sur face of a rotary regenerative heat exchanger is in the form of a shoe extending along the length or across the width of the drum or disc of the exchanger and is composed partly of heat resistant metal and partly of a different material adapted to provide lubrication between the drum or disc and the shoe, heat being dissipated by the metal into the surrounding medium. As shown,. metal plates a alternate with carbon plates b and the former may extend beyond the latter into a cooling chamber. In another form carbon inserts are provided in a solid metal shoe.
