Abstract
678,979. Telescopic beams for supporting floor &c. shuttering. KWIKFORM, Ltd. May 7, 1951 [May 8, 1950], No. 11334/50. Class 20(ii) A telescopic beam 10, Fig. 1, for supporting. floor &c. shuttering, e.g. as described in Specification 574,457, and adapted to be supported at its ends on walls 17, is collapsed after setting of the concrete by means of screw jacks 20 secured to the ends of the beam and adapted to be extended to abut against the walls and force the ends of the beams away from the walls. Each jack 20 comprises a screw threaded member 31 disposed in a tube 22, Fig. 4, to which is welded a channel section member 23 closed at one end by an abutment plate 24 which bears against an abutment face 19 in the beam. The jack 20 may be secured to the beam by frictional engagement or, as shown, by a pin 27 engaging registering holes in the member 23 and beam 10. A nut 33 is provided with a cylindrical portion 34 which is freely rotatable within the tube 22 and is secured against axial movement by pins 35 engaging a groove 36 in the portion 34. The screw threaded member 31 is prevented from rotating by means of a lug 39 which slidably engages in a longitudinal slot 40 in the tube 22.
