Abstract
678,866. Spring suspensions. WORTHING- TON, R. S. May 29,1951 [May 31,1950], No. 13612/50. Class 108(ii) In a vehicle wheel suspension the wheel is mounted on an independent axle pivoted to the vehicle chassis, a shackle is rotatably mounted on the axle so as to present portions extending above and below the axis of rotation of the wheel and leaf springs are connected between the chassis and the respective portions of the shackle from opposite sides thereof. In the arrangement shown, a stub axle 11 is carried by an L-shaped half axle which is pivoted about the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle chassis. A shackle 15 is rotatably mounted on an inward extension of the stub axle and is formed with cheeks 18 to which are pivotally connected the free ends of leaf springs 19. The invention is particularly applicable to twowheeled caravans.
