677,426. Swing-frame grinders. LUKE & SPENCER, Ltd., and STURROCK, J. D. April 19, 1950 [March 19, 1949], No. 7513/49. Class 60. [Also in Group XXVIII] A swing-frame grinding-machine comprising a tubular frame 4 suspended by a bar 22 which is pivoted to a supporting means, not shown, has at one end a partially hooded grinding wheel 14 driven by an electric motor 7 through pulleys 17, 18 and a belt 9b, and at the other end has a base 6 supporting the motor 7, a speed change gate 9, and an elbow 24 to which is connected a flexible suction duct 30 (see Group XXVIII). The wheel 14 is applied to the workpiece manually by a handle 23, and a pivoted feeler when adjusted by a handle 11 to engage the wheel serves to remove particles from the wheel and also controls the speed gate belt fork 9a through a cable 10 to vary the wheel speed.
