Abstract
674,918. Magnetic recording systems. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. Dec. 19, 1950. [Jan. 30, 1950] No. 30867/50. Class 40 (ii). In a magnetic recorder in which a sound head is moved over a record 10 by a carriage 13 driven by a worm 14, the carriage 13 bears a toothed wheel 35 and a ratchet wheel 34 fast to one another, the ratchet wheel being held stationary by an anchor escapement normally, so that the toothed wheel, which meshes with the worm 14, drives the carriage as the worm rotates. Means, such as an electromagnet 40, are provided to move the anchor escapement, and restoring means, such as a spring, move the carriage back in a direction opposite its normal direction at each escape. The guide rails for the carriage or the carriage itself are capable of being tilted to disengage the wheel 35 from the worm 14 and thus permit the position of the carriage to be adjusted to any amount in either direction.
