Abstract
666,987. Pressure-relieving devices for fluids. EKCO PRODUCTS CO. Oct. 13, 1948 [Oct. 29, 1947], No. 26647/48. Class 135. A pressure relief plug for a pressure cooker comprises a resilient disc 32, e.g. of neoprene, secured in a hole 26 in the lid 11 and a fusible plug 27 obstructing a vent 30 in the disc. The small flange 33 on the disc is pushed upwardly through the hole until the disc is held by the flange 33 on top of the lid and by the large flange 34 underneath. The disc carries a metal sleeve 25 having an inwardly tapering roughened bore into which is forced a fusible metal plug. The sleeve is flanged at 37 on a level with the lower surface of the lid so that only the lower flange is distorted when the disc is blown out. Should the disc not blow out, the metal plug fuses and blows out at a higher temperature.
