Abstract

A process for making a hexa-alkyl thiophosphoryl-triphosphate comprises reacting 3 mols. of a trialkyl phosphate with each mol. of thiophosphoryl chloride at an elevated temperature until the number of mols. of alkyl chloride evolved from the resulting reaction mixture equals the number of mols. of tri-alkyl phosphate used as starting material. Suitable reaction temperatures are 100 DEG to 200 DEG C., preferably 140-150 DEG C. The products are of use in insecticides (see Group VI). Examples describe the preparation of (1) hexa-ethyl, (2) hexamethyl and (3) hexabutyl thiophosphoryl-triphosphates in reactions at 145 DEG C. The corresponding propyl, butyl, iso-propyl and iso-butyl compounds are also mentioned.ALSO:Insecticides comprise compositions of hexa - alkyl thiophosphoryl - triphosphates, (the preparation of which is described, see Group IV(b)). Alkyl groups specified are methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl and isobutyl. Sodium lauryl sulphate is specified as a further ingredient of aqueous solutions of the phosphates.
