Abstract
659,834. Stuffing-box substitutes. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. March 9, 1949. No. 6442. [Class 122(v)] [Also in Group XXIX] A gland for a valve or other rotatable spindle 15 comprises two bushes 19, 20 clamped axially together in a housing 1 with a packing ring 21 between them, a packing 22 in one bush 19 which is deformed to act as a seal when a pressure difference obtains across the gland in one direction and a packing 23 in the other bush 20 which is deformed to act as a seal when a pressure difference exists across the gland in the opposite direction. The packings 22, 23 are preferably rubber rings having sealing lips thereon.
