Abstract
657,820. Coated fabrics. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BULGIN, D. June 8, 1948, No. 15385. [Class 140] In the production of pile fabrics and like sheet material by electrostatic deposition of finely-divided material on an adhesivecoated backing, a current of gas in which the divided material is suspended passes an electrode charged to a high potential relative to the backing to impart said charge to the material which is then conducted through an insulated conduit into the vicinity of the backing. As shown, cotton flock 1 is fed into a hopper 2 provided with a rotating paddle 3 and is launched into an air-stream 6 which conveys the flock through a highly charged electrode 9 of open mesh conductive material, e.g. copper, and an earthed conduit 11, lined with insulating material, e.g. polythene, as at 11a, into a deposition chamber 12, lined with an insulating layer 12a, in which a roller 14 carries an earthed flexible metal belt 15 driven by a roller 16. Fabric 18 is fed over an adhesive-coating roller 20 on to the belt and after deposition of the flock thereon through a dryer 23. A screen portion 25 of the chamber limits the length of fabric exposed and upon which deposition may take place.
