646,988. Recording-apparatus. PENN INDUSTRIAL INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 19, 1947, No. 25602. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1946. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XV] A recording instrument comprises a rotatable spindle for carrying a tablet of circular charts and devices for locating the outermost chart in a substantially flat condition to be marked by a movable marking member, the devices including means engaging the periphery of the outermost chart. Clockwork mechanism drives a large gear 18 fixed to a sleeve 16 held by a nut 14 on a pin 12 fixed in the housing 2. A stack of charts 24, secured temporarily to each other and to a cardboard backing 26 by adhesive at their peripheries has a central hole in which fits tightly a thin metal sleeve 30 with flange 32 and spring fingers 34 engaging a groove 36 in the sleeve 16 when the charts are fitted thereon. A spring 38 or other resilient means forces the foremost chart against the flange 32 and one or more short slits from the central hole ensure that no paper is left behind when a chart is removed. Spring metal elements extending inwardly from a door of the casing engage the periphery of the foremost chart to keep it flat and a pin in the gear 18 may penetrate holes near the peripheries of the charts to prevent slipping.
