[Class 120(ii)] Drafting apparatus, in which rovings are traversed axially of the rollers along with corresponding traverse of the threads leaving the apparatus, has divided underclearers which bear on the whole of those parts of the lower front rollers which are not swept by the threads and adjacent each lower front roller a suction orifice is arranged in the space formed by the divisions of the under-clearer, each suction orifice having a width substantially equal to the width of each space. The underclearer 16 may be carried by a spindle 17, the ends of which are spring-urged upwardly. The part of the spindle 17 exposed between each section of the under-clearer supports the suction nozzle 21, at the end of a pipe 24 attached by a flexible tube 27 to a main suction duct 25. Elements 23, 23a are formed on the nozzle to assist in correctly locating it, the front element 23 being adjustable and removable. In a modification, the elements 23, 23a are dispensed with and a rubbing block is attached to the nozzle to bear on the spindle 17. The orifice, in either case, should be as wide as conveniently can be accommodated in the space between the under-clearer sections. The under-clearers may be formed by a number of coaxially disposed discs and intermediate spacing sleeves.
