Abstract
639,986. Endless-chain block-moulding-machines. JOUANNY, L. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25856. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1944. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A continuously-moving endless belt 3 carries mould ends 9 and bottoms 10 between stationary moulds sides 11. As each bottom arrives below a pallet hopper 14, a pallet 15 is dropped on to the bottom (see Group XXX). As the belt moves from right to left, cement &c. is dropped from a hopper 12 into the mould spaces between the ends 9 and the cement is compressed by a vertically-reciprocating head 29 which travels with the belt during the pressing stroke, then rises and is finally retracted to the right in preparation for another pressing stroke. In a modification (not illustrated) complete moulds may be fed past the hopper and pressing head. The pressing head 29 is mounted, through the intermediary of stress-limiting springs 30, on a support 31 suspended on parallel links 32 pivoted at 33 on a carriage 34 having wheels which run on rails. The head is depressed by means of a pinion 46 and rack 44 carrying a roller 40 journalled at the end of an arm 41 pivoted on a fixed shaft 43. The rack slides in a pivoted guide 48, and the roller 40 bears on the support 31. When the head is engaged between two ends 9 the carriage 34 is pushed along by the conveyer until a stop 61 tilts a lever 57 and declutches the drive to the pinion 46. Counterweights 39 on the links 32 then raise the head, and springs 38 (which have been stretched during the forward movement of the carriage) retract the carriage to the position shown. As the belt advances, an edge 13 on the hopper levels the material in the moulds.
