Abstract
639,920. Two-part couplings. WEBBER, N.W.D. April 5, 1948, No. 9458. [Class 38 (i)J A two-part coupling has manually-releasable spring latch means for holding the coupling together. One part of the coupling, Fig. 2, comprises a body 2, e.g. of rubber, housing an insulating plate 1 on which contact pins 4 are mounted. A hollow plug 6 also mounted on the plate 1 contains a pivoted latch 11 spring-urged so that it protrudes through a slot 15 in the plug, a trigger 13 integral with the latch projecting into an opening 17 in the body which together with a handle 16 thereon, forms a pistol grip. The other part of the coupling comprises a plate 19, Fig. 4, carrying terminals 20 having leaf-springs 23 secured thereto and carrying contact tips 25. A socket 26 also mounted on the plate receives the plug 6, the latch snapping into a slot 27 in the socket and the pins 4 abutting the contact 25. The plug- and-socket serve also to prevent incorrect coupling. A cover 28 has openings for the pins and plug 6 and fits within the body 2. The leaf-springs may be replaced by spiral springs placed behind the contacts 25 and of sufficient strength to urge the coupling apart when the latch is released.
