Abstract
639,636. Pneumatic conveyers. CHALLIS, E. J., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 1, 1948, No. 6420. [Class 78 (i)] In a process for the transfer of particulate solid in which the solid flows down a pipe inclined to the horizontal at an angle greater than the normal angle of repose of the particulate solid into a substantially horizontal tube through which a fluid stream is passing substantially axially to fluidise but not to entrain the solid, the horizontal tube having a length sufficient to prevent the solid flowing freely from it if the fluid stream is interrupted, but the length being not much in excess of this. As shown in Fig. 1, the particulate solid contained in the hopper 1 flows down a pipe 2 into a stream of gas flowing in a horizontal tube 3. The gas may be introduced into the tube 3 by means of a jet. The rate of solid flow is varied by varying the gas rate. Specification 582,055, [Group XII], is referred to.
