Abstract
639,234. Heating feedwater ; tubular heat exchangers. BAILEY, R. W., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 12, 1947, No. 30141. [Classes 64(i) and 64(iii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIV] In a combustion product power plant (see Group XXVI) feed water for a boiler 3 is heated in heat exchangers 9, 10 and 11 by hot oil from transmission gears and/or hydraulic couplings 7, 8 and an internal combustion engine 2 respectively. The heat exchangers 9, 10 and 11 may be of the type, Fig. 2, in which leakage between the oil and feedwater is prevented by jacketing the separating walls and passing an intermediate heat exchange medium through the jacketing. Feedwater enters at 12 and flows through the inner concentric tubes 13 to the outlet 14, whilst hot oil enters at 15 and passes over the outer concentric tubes 13 to the outlet 16. The intermediate heat exchange medium, such as water, enters at 18 and flows between the inner and outer concentric tubes 13 to the outlet 19.
