Abstract

637,607. Hooks. HURD, G. K. Dec. 15, 1947, No. 33064. [Class 89 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A hook attachment for anchoring a ladder to a projection of a building &c. comprises a pair of U-shaped frame members 1, 2, Fig. 2, adjustably secured together to form a rectangular frame to fit between the ladder sides 11, hooked bars 12 mounted on the frame to engage a ladder rung 14 and anchor hooks 17 having extensions 16 slidably mounted in the frame and provided with hooked ends 21 to engage an adjacent ladder rung 14A, the anchor hooks 17 being held in the extended position by compression springs 23 acting on blocks 22 secured to the extensions 16. Lock washers 18 located between the hooked bars 12 and brackets 15 (or brackets 24, Fig. 5) are formed with lugs 19 to tip the washers into locking contact with the extensions 16. Each frame member 1, 2 is formed of two right angular bars 6, 61 riveted together to form shoulders 7 inside the frame and the side faces of the blocks 22 engage the side bars 6 and hold the hooks 17 in the out-turned positions ; on pressing down the hooks 17 so as to bring the blocks 22 below the shoulders 7, the blocks are able to turn and the hooks 17 may be folded inwards for storage &c. purposes.
