[Class 146 (i)] In a latch device for a pivoted loose-leaf binder in which a rigid latch-member is secured to one back half 1 to co-operate with a yieldable locking member on the other back half 2 so that the binder can be locked in a completely closed position and in a half open position, the rigid latch member comprises an attaching plate 11, an arm 12 at right angles thereto which is bent to provide a portion 13. parallel to the binder back in closed position, ending in a locking abutment 14 and a further portion 15 bent obliquely downwardly and ending in a locking abutment 16, the locking abutments 14 and 16 co-operating, in the closed and half open positions respectively, with one edge of the depressable locking member which comprises a leaf spring 20 with a finger grip 18. The arrangement is such that the abutment will catch the spring 20 when it is depressed only enough to clear the abutment 14. On closing the binder from half open position, the one edge of the spring 20 will ride up the oblique portion 15, the other edge being clear of the abutment 14. The binder back halves 1, 2 are joined by a fabric back 3 to provide a hinge 4 and a thin plate 22 is provided under the plate 11 which slides under a fitting 19 on the back half 2 in the closed position to relieve the hinge. The leaf spring 20 is guided in a slot in the fitting 19.
