Abstract

[Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A target towing installation for aircraft comprises a cable cutting device with which is associated clamping means for securing the cut end of the portion of the cable which remains attached to the aircraft. In the arrangement shown the cable passes from a winch, around a pulley 18, over a notched base member 23 and anvil 22, and then between pairs of perpendicularly disposed rollers 21, 20. The cable is severed by operating a bell-crank lever 34 to release a spring-loaded plunger 25 carrying a cutter 27 and also a clamping jaw 28 by which the end of the cut cable is secured and prevented from damaging the aircraft. A rod 36 attached to the bell crank 34 is projected below the base of the unit, to indicate that the cutter has operated. To re-set the cutter a screwed plug 41 is removed from the anvil, and a tool inserted to compress the plunger spring 26 and allow the plunger to engage the triggerrelease mechanism.
