Abstract

636,815. Centre punches. BRECOMIN (ENGLAND), Ltd., and GODECK, J. E. May 5, 1948, No. 12396. [Class 61 (ii)] A centre punch has a base made wholly or in part of transparent material with cross lines thereon which are aligned, in use, with scribed lines on the surface of a workpiece intersecting at the point where the punch mark is to be made, in order correctly to position the punch. The support 11 in which the punch 12 slides is secured to a transparent plastic base 10 by a nut 15, the base having lines 13, 14 engraved on the under side. In a modification, a steel base is provided with four holes in each of which a lens and a transparent disc with cross lines 'are cemented. In another modification, a transparent base has, on the upper side, four radial ridges shaped to form lenses focussed on lines scored on the under side. Three magnetic feet on this base steady the punch when used on a ferro-magnetic workpiece. The cross lines on the base may be scribed at angles of 60 degrees. The punch may be spring-biassed in a downward direction and held raised by a spring catch.
